Neither as a single modifier nor when selecting borders.

This should be easy?

As you can see I wanted to chamber edge in order to have rounded corner. That just didn't work for me, so I chambered vertices. And that somehow worked.

I know that this are basics of the 3Ds max, and have googled for many solutions, but it just does not work.

Did you model this piece on your own or did you import the geometry from a different application?

Very likely you have unwelded vertices/open edges on this piece, causing the modeling operations to fail.

When using border, do you get the red edge selection outlining the hole?

Can you check if the top, bottom and sides are properly welded and don't have open edges?

Just go to the border subobject and drag a rectangular selection over the entire piece.

Please refer to this image as an example for open edges/unwelded vertices:

Example for open edges

edit: Hello. Sorry, I've seen the reply now. Just a minute and I've try to answer.

Thank you on answer.

Here is another pic of what I did.

That is supposed to be part of a shelf.

I deleted all the faces along the line where I have missing faces.

I ve tried using border-cap, but it creates some weird faces all around. I want it to create faces just where is missing.

This is a very common problem on the internet for begineers and I've tried my best.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSH85Lc3OUI

This does not work. Dunno why, but it does not work. I've tried both the edges and borders from edit poly -- cap holes modifier. It creates manu faces. But it does not create the filling in.

https://prnt.sc/pv2o0x

(this is the picture)

But, It just won't work. You see that I just need to "close" the object with a face. But, how to create a face?

I've read some tutorials about step builduing, but 3Ds Max should be much easier to achieve this - not to bother with step builduing. I've read something about connecting vertices, but I should select all of them one by one when doing "create" and that is very time consuming, must there be an easier way to do that.

When it comes to chamfer, I do not know why I can't chamfer an edge or border. I've seen tutorials where people do it normally, but somehow here it is a problem.

@Anonymous

Hi and thanks again.

I imported the model which was round (like a box) from the internet. It had all faces. After that, I decided to chamfer the edge - but it didn't work. So I chamfered the vertices and somehow got to a desired round corner of the supposed to be a part of the shelf.

So I did that modeling.

Well, the whole is now bigger cause I deleted the face all front end right as you can see on the other picture in the previous post. But, it should be the same process.

Here's the picture of the going to border and selecting all as a rectangle.

https://prnt.sc/pv2zsb

This is the picture from another angle. There is a face down of the object on z axis although it

appers to be blank.

https://prnt.sc/pv31yf

However, when chamfering just box for the example (edge on it) - the chamfer option does work. But, still not in this object I have problems with. That's the problem cause I usually download objects from the web and then remodel them. I can create a shelf out of the box, too, but does that mean that every time I want to remodel something from the web, I will have to doing it on my own and not editing?

Best regards

@Anonymousfrom your screenshot, this model has open edges all over the place. This means that the polygons aren`t properly welded together. To perform a successful chamfer operations, you will need to fix this piece first.

I highly suggest to model such a piece on your own, which is very simple. And even more so, you can make it parametric, so you can adjust the edge radius and height anytime:

Draw a rectangle in the top viewport and simply add an Extrude modifier.

However,if you still plan to fix this imported piece, i suggest starting from scratch with the unaltered geometry:

Go to editablePoly subobject->vertex

Select ALL vertices of the entire piece

Perform a weld operation with a low weld-threshold. Check vertices before/after in the dialog.

If this fixes the geometry, you can continue by chamfering the edges

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you very much on kind solutions.

Thanks again, it works when drawing rectangles. I've deleted the object I posted pictures of so I can't tell, but I'll keep in mind when editing again. I've just created a box and normally edited it with chamber for my need.

However, somehow this particular objects from the web can't be chamfered and I don't know why. It's the same with some other objects. Do you have experience with that, maybe?

Thank you again and your solution proved to be right for me.

Best regards! 🙂

Hello. Thank you very much for your time and explanation! 🙂

I understand when it comes to imported geometry. I have to work on the weld option, cause when I try to weld something, I reduce the number of vertices only with large numbers. But that's with the door for example. Nevertheless, I found the easiest (for me) solution when it comes to creating (filling) faces. Just going to editable poly - polygons - create. And then attaching them where I need it by moving the vertices.

It's kind of simple without all that connect edges, etc. Cause I've worked on a door (Imported) model and needed to create a face down because doors didn't have the bottom part of the doors. (that where is doorstep)

And I've tried with connecting edges, borders, and caping, I've tried even extruding, but the only thing that help was to create a polygon cause automatically it creates a face inside of that polygon.

Thanks once again.

Best regards
