Is there a way to select a group of objects and rotate each to their individual (not group) pivot points?

For example an array of planes that form Venetian blinds: I now want to partially close the blinds.

Certainly. Just select "Local" as the Reference Cooridnate system, select all the objects and they will rotate around their local pivots; see image below:

You probably meant a group of objects that are a Max "Group". If you open the group and select all of the members of the group without selecting the Group parent, then local rotation around the individual pivot points will work with "Local" selected as the Reference Coordinate System. Hope this answers your question.
