In 3ds Max, you can import 3D models, including furniture, from other websites like TurboSquid while retaining their materials. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do this:

Download the 3D Model: First, download the 3D model of the furniture you purchased from TurboSquid. Ensure that the model comes in a compatible file format for 3ds Max, such as .FBX, .OBJ, or .3DS.

Open 3ds Max: Launch 3ds Max on your computer.

Import the 3D Model:

Go to the "File" menu.

Select "Import" and then choose the file format your model is in (e.g., .FBX, .OBJ).

Locate and select the downloaded furniture model on your computer.

Click the "Open" button.

Configure Import Options: A dialog box may appear, depending on the file format you chose. Ensure that the import settings are appropriate for your model. Typically, you can leave the default settings as they are for most furniture models. Click "OK" or "Import" to proceed.

Review the Imported Model: After importing, you should see the 3D model of the furniture in your 3ds Max workspace. If the model has materials associated with it, they should also be imported and displayed.

Check Materials: To verify that the materials have been imported correctly, select the furniture model. In the "Modify" panel on the right-hand side of the screen, you should see the materials associated with the model. You can click on these materials to view and edit their properties.

Adjust Materials (if necessary): If you need to make any adjustments to the materials (e.g., changing textures, colors), you can do so by editing the material properties in the "Material Editor" or "Slate Material Editor" in 3ds Max.

Finalize Your Scene: Once you are satisfied with the imported furniture and its materials, you can proceed to incorporate it into your 3D scene or project.

Remember that the specific steps and options may vary slightly depending on the version of 3ds Max you are using. However, these general steps should help you import furniture from external sources like TurboSquid while preserving their materials within 3ds Max.

Read my blog for more insights about furniture 3D modelling and furniture store marketing ideas

@Anonymous

You haven't said what format(s) you downloaded the model in or what version of max you are using. Try importing the .fbx format into max (file>Import then select *.fbx near top of dropdownlist and accept the default in the import dialogue for starters)

If (1) the .fbx download from Turbosquid was prepared properly,

      (2) the model download includes textures (not all of the models include textures even if they are displayed on Turbosquid with textures on them)

and (3) you have a reasonably recent version of max

then it should come in to max without problems along with the materials provided.

Some of the sites also make the models available in .max format, so these will open in max with File> open or via drag and drop into a viewport. Again, not all models have textures applied to them so if you want textures then you have to check the mode/download details to see if they are actually included.
