Creating the handle for a hanging pot

Hey all,

I'm working on a cooking pot, one that hangs from a truss over a campfire, for an animation of mine, but I'm stymied as to how to make the handle for it. The pictures below roughly shows what I have in mind, but I'd like it to be a smoother circle.

I've tried to make the handle via a freedrawn spline, like the pictures show, or bending a cylinder polygon, but none of the methods I've tried have really worked. Could someone please provide some assistance?

Create a spline and control its shape with Bezier handles at its vertices then either check the option to Enable In Renderer with a desired radial thickness or use a sweep modifier.
