Trying to select edges to set and smooth, problem is edges on the other side of the mesh is also selected unless I select edges one by one. This is a very slow workflow.

There must be a way to stop edged not in view from being selected with area selection.

Hello, there are a lot of selection methods in 3ds max. you can open the ribbon panel and find the selection tab there. Here you will find a lot of tools. You can also convert selections. For example: select polygons, then press (ctrl) and select edge detection. You will see that all the edges that make up these polygons are now selected. If you select the polygons and hold ( shift ) to select the edges, you will get the perimeter selected. You can find all this in the help, or take a look at the tutorials on selections. Don't forget that there are optional culling options in the editor tab. The Backface button allows you to skip selecting the polygons you turn away. The Occluded button (available in versions 2022 and 2023) allows you to skip selecting the polygons that don't fit in the camera. Good luck.

Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
