Hi. Since v2014 (IIRC) the default setting for the environment map is "Spherical" instead of "Screen". This means that when not using a spherical photo, you must manually change the setting to "Screen". Drag the environment map to an empty slot in your material editor (compact editor), choose "Instanced" when asked, change "Spherical" to "Screen".

NB - if you want to make sure you see the same in the display as the render-output, change your display background settings to "Match Rendering Output" (instead of "Match Bitmap").

Hope it helps

Hi. That depends on the renderer used. But basically it's done by adding a plane with a Matte/Shadow material. Then the plane will show the background image but also receive shadows, reflection etc. Note that material name, functionality, setup etc. will vary depending on the renderer used. So check your help files for your specific needs.

Hope it helps

AFAIK yes. I don't have Vray, so I can't help you with any details on this issue. Vray isn't a part Max, it's a 3rd part product. Might be some help or tutorials on Vray's homepage.

Since your original issue is solved, and this question differs from the headline, I'll suggest you mark this thread as "Solved" and makes a new thread specific for your last question, either here or on Vray's site.

Hope it helps
