Painting Bond-line Drawing onto Box

Hi everyone! You guys have been remarkably helpful in the past, so I have another question--

I have a box. I also have a bond-line drawing of a molecule (.TIFF) that I need to paint onto one face of this box. But I need to have just the bond-line drawing. No extraneous background.

The end product needs to be a semi-transparent glass slide with the bond-line drawing on it. Relevant pictures attached below.

I've tried brushing on a custom paint but it was weird and circular and not at all what I needed.

UPDATE:

I tried this tutorial and it just turned the box gray. I think that this is the way I could do it, but I'm still not sure if this will give me the correct gray-shaded trnaslucent boxes that I need.
