Thanks Steve, nice and clear.

I wonder if there is a script that can auto snap while extruding without having to exit extrude mode as you described...? It's one of the things I miss most about Blender, extruding clean geoshapes is very quick. Off to do some research...

Hi,

I'm very new to Max (I've just moved from Blender). I'm not able to find any info about this but excuse me if it is an old subject...

When extruding a face on an editable poly the snapping doesn't work. I've made sure all snaps are on but the face still moves freely. Am I missing something? Should I be using the extrude modifier on top of the edit poly?

Also, is there a way to snap by percentages instead of units? Blender has a feature where you can extrude a distance which is equal to a percentage of the size of the connected faces which makes for some nice organic looking shapes.

Thanks.

No, you're not missing anything - Extrude, and some other similar functions, do not use snaps. You can tell because the Gizmo changes from the normal one with 3 coloured axes to thin grey/red ones - same as you get if you turn the Gizmos off. Easiest is probably to drag them out, right-click to cancel the Extrude, then grab the correct gizmo axis and snap them into place.
There are a few things which use percentages - Scaling does, as does animation with a Path Constraint - but the vast majority of things use Units. Remember that there are things in Max which rely on the objects being the correct, real-world, size, so percentages wouldn't always make sense, even if they were available.
