      <title>Boolean tool on imported objects</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hello,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I am beginner in using 3ds max so please excuse my dumb question.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I am trying to grave an object from another object, both of them created in another 3d modelling software, from .OBJ format.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;It is a signet ring and a relief griffin. &amp;nbsp;What I want to do is graving the shape of the 3d griffin into the plane surface of the ring.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have tried to use the Boolean tool but without success. &amp;nbsp;I am sure I do some mistake but I don't know what.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;IMG src="https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/226659i7ABD716CB6DFF3A5/image-size/original?v=lz-1&amp;amp;px=-1" border="0" alt="screen1.jpg" title="screen1.jpg" /&gt;&lt;IMG src="https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/226660i6B2A36C24FB9F09C/image-size/original?v=lz-1&amp;amp;px=-1" border="0" alt="screen2.jpg" title="screen2.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;And this is look like after using the boolean tool:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;IMG src="https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/226661iFFF130DD6C330571/image-size/original?v=lz-1&amp;amp;px=-1" border="0" alt="screen3.jpg" title="screen3.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have tried also the ProBoolean but it gives me Invalid boolean.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Is there any setting that I should change on the imported objects?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I tried &amp;nbsp;the Boolean tool on some rectangles and shapes created with 3dsMax and is working fine.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thank you&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>Unlike many CAD packages that deal with solid objects ( Solidworks - Inventor ), the booleans in 3DS Max deal with surfaces, so if the surfaces of the two don't overlap, all boolean operations ( except for union ) will have no effect.</description>

      <description>Well Yes, typically when you import a solid part ( for example from Inventor ) you are given the option to convert the import to mesh or import as a body object.&lt;BR /&gt;Also, if you already have a body object in the scene - you can R-Click and convert to editable poly. However, your previous post said you were importing a object - I don't think that would be a body object or solid - objects The file .OBJ ) are typically Geometry files.</description>
