Hi, guys!

Well, I decided to create some technological thing in inventor. When I open it in Max i see:

Modificator of this thing is "body object".

Next I convert it to editable poly. And now picture is:

What's my plan: to delete all long diagonals, and then cut-cut-cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut- cut.

Is it the easiest way?

thanks)

What is your end goal for the Max model? That will determine whether it was necessasry to convert the imported model to an editable poly in the first place. What is your reason for deleting the "long diagonals". Importing the model from Inventor via an IGES file (as it appears you did) yields NURBS surfaces in Max. It may be OK to keep the geometry in this format depending on what you want to do with it. Converting it to an editable poly changes the geometry to a collection of triangular faces.

~Lee

Thanks a lot for your answer! I want to create model for animation and make short movie. To create base model in inventor for further development in 3Ds max - a good idea or not? There is my model ...

After deleting some edges (long diagonals) the appearance of model changed. Ugly black shadows. What is it? How to get rid of them? Thanks!!!

Hi. It looks like you totally screwed up the smoothing groups. But that's easy to fix. Select all polygons, scroll down in the editor and find "Smoothing Groups", set a threshold value (I.e. 15) and press "Autosmooth". If the result isn't satisfying then select another threshold value and press again.

I still don't understand why you need to delete (hope it actually is "remove") edges, but that's up to you...

Hope it helps
