I think the only requirement for OpenSubdiv GPU mode is a DirectX 11 compatible card.

I would check if the latest ServicePack for 3dsmax2016 is installed (SP3) and also the latest driver for your card.

Hi

I was trying the openSubdiv modifier today and whenever I switch to GPU Display my model starts freaking out. I a currently using 3Ds Max 2016 and I have an AMD R9 200. I was able to recreate the bug on another PC with also an AMD graphics card. It would really help to know, if my graphics card is really the cause for this error.

I made a short video so you can see what is happening when I switch.

Yours

Christina

thanks for the reply.

I made sure that SP3 is installed and as far as I know my graphics card is directX 11 compatible. I also checked my drivers. Seems to be fine.

Do you have any other ideas what could be the problem?

Perhaps try resetting the user settings or a reinstall but i doubt it will help.

Just to be sure, the geometry you used for OpenSubdiv is without any errors?

Did you also try it on a standard primitive? Can you try it on the 2017 SP2 release?

Other than that you should try a nvidia card if you have access to it.

Resetting didn't work and standard primitives do the same. I will try it on 2017 SP2 soon. But a friend of mine has a Nvidia card and it works fine. Maybe AMD is just not compatible (in 2016 version). Let's see if 2017 works.

You can find a list of certified graphics hardware here:

Consumer level Radeons are supported. If you can find your graphics card in this list and it still doesn`t work, it`s imho a support case.

Okay, thanks a lot. My card is on that list so I will try contacting the support.
