Creating Scroll

Hi, I am new to 3DS Max. I have been trying for days now to turn http://i.imgur.com/l7odLDY.jpg into a 3d model. I have pretty much finished it however I cannot model the scroll on it.

I have tried creating a box and then using PathDeform to create it with the following results http://i.imgur.com/KLGnqRQ.png

I have created rails and connected them together however i then cant use the Boolean or ProBoolean to create the ends http://i.imgur.com/AXm9uKE.png as it errors. I have also with this tried to edit each vertex but the scroll then just deforms horribly ( i don't have a screen grab of this)

I have also modeled the whole scroll from a single plane however its just so flat http://i.imgur.com/vcihiDw.png I have added noise modifiers but that hasn't helped.

I have watched tutorials on scroll making and scoured the internet for solutions but haven't found any. If anyone could help me out on this i would be very appreciative
