Hi man.

Im not quite sure how to help you from you current situation.

If your having alot of trouble creating a car you should probably follow tutorials theres plenty good onces (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62M8xw7Ot9s)

Now that being said i would probably have front and side view and then instead of modelling the entire top and sides i would model each part and bend it as the car would be.

If you feel that seems too difficult for your current level of modelling or just want to do it faster you can allways download free models of cars on Turbosquid (https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-model/car?keyword=&synonym=cars&max_price=0&min_price=0) or other 3d sites. Then you can take exsisting car and tweak that into your car.

Ps. its allways good to keep polygons low but at a later state you can allways use the 'optimize' tool lower the amount of polygons on your model.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards

Imgur Album of the car.

Hello! I have been working on this model of a Toyota AE86 Trueno Sprinter (hatchback) for a week now, and I've spent maybe a day on the top and front planes. I spent 2 days figuring out how to actually do this while making the left plane, so it is a tad chaotic. Sorry.

I'm making this model for a game that I'm developing, and would like some advice on what steps to take next. My process is to take the reference image, create a basic plane, bend it to fit the sides and quick-slice to make new bend points. This keeps the number of quadrilaterals down to a very minimal amount, none of the planes have more than 100.

I must say that 3ds Max has been very good to me, no issues so far. I love that there are so many people that frequently check this forum so as to help users as much as they can.

I've attached the scene file so you can point out where I messed up.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for giving the forum a shoutout! yes, you're right they're all super helpful especially @Chri688m

If I understand your question correctly, you're looking to model the top and front planes? So you're looking to leverage UV unwrapping, modeling and cloning?

I'd suggest checking out these tutorials;

Unwrapping a Car "Video Tutorial Series" - This is where you should start first before cloning or meshing. Check out "technical model" section where we cover modeling a car.

Animating a Car on a Path "Video Tutorial Series" - If you want to take it to the next level, learn how to animate with this tutorial series keeping those wheels spinning.

Let us know how you get on and please share your results!

I completely forgot to come back here and accept a solution! so sorry! The car looks great, and I've learned quite a lot. I still have a whole heap of practice to do before I can crank models out like a printer, but you helped me immensely! I'm so sorry that I forgot to accept the solution! For the next attempt, I'm definitely going to Boolean subtract to make the windows.

This is probably the most helpful forum I've ever come across!
