topic Re: Smooth does not work. Have tried resetting Normals, Xform, detaching polys, in 3ds Max Modeling Forum

Nearly all the vertices in your model are unwelded. They have to be welded together to have the smoothing groups to work properly. Right now they are each polygon is it's own element, although it's a part of just one Mesh. Also, when I imported it, came as an editable Mesh. No problem with that, but I am just wondering was it intentional?

Some of your polygons had flipped normal. If you go to polygon mode or vertex mode and select all the polygons or verts (ctr + A), you'll notice "stray verts", which are actually flipped normal.

My advice to you is Weld the vertices before applying smoothing groups. Also, make sure your normal are all facing the right side before continuing.

** Please see my Attachments.

Smooth does not work. Have tried resetting Normals, Xform, detaching polys, etc

All the Smooth modifiers have no effect on my mesh. Have searched past topics and tried all the recommended fixes from there. Have reset normals, reset xform, detached all polys into new mesh, cloned the mesh and deleted the old one, exported into different format and reimported... no dice.

Have attached the relevant part of my mesh and you can see the underside could do with some smoothing. Any solutions?
