Creating a Map

Good day,

I am working with Adobe Photoshop CS on Windows 7 Ultimate a Dell Precision 4600 Mobile Workstation, 3Ds Max 2015 and when I try to make a material map or change or alter a material map it seems after saving when I go back into Max and try to apply the map it has a lock on it. I go back into Photoshop and double click on the lock and it separates the two layers then if I attempt to save, save as copy with or with out layers, or even flatten the lock returns no matter what type of file I create to use as a map. Can someone help please. Thanks it is getting frustrating.

Can you please post a screenshot highlighting this? That would make it easier to identify or point out what's going on.

Here is a screen shot of maps I created in many file configurations and for some reason or another when I go from the material map browser it cannot recognize it because it is locked?
