So I'm using the Swift loop tool, (I'm a beginner) and when I hit shift so that it goes to the middle, it doesn't just create the edge loop? I'm not sure how to explain it. On one axis, it works fine when I use the tool, and use shift to bring it to the middle. But on the other axis it doesn't work. What do I do?

I put a picture showing my problem

Hi,

Shift + Swift Loop doesn't just place a loop between existing loops.

It will modify the newly created loop based of the surrounding loops.

Picture 1: i'm pressing the Shift but before creating the loop

Picture 2: after creating the loop

ah sorry

I'm a bit tired now,

The PConnect will let you create edges one by one,

For a loop it's better to go to edges subobject level, select a whole ring of edges and use the

Connect tool in the Edit Edges rollout.

LOL no worries! Sorry, I don't know any of what you suggested 😕 Where is edge subobject level? But actually that P loop thing helps. I don't really need an edge loop in the middle. But I'd appreciate if you could tell me how? It would come in handy in the future. (I'm following an Udemy course right now, but learning stuff outside of it is good.)

I attached a picture below showing the selection ring and the Connect tool,

Next to the Connect tool there is small button if you click it you'll have the connect settings where

You can choose how many connecting edges you want, and you can play with the spacing between them

And slid them if you like.

If you just click the big connect button you'll apply the last setting you used. By default you'll add only one

Connecting edge.

Swift loop is a very handy tool. The fact no default shortcut allows to place it in the middle of the edges is quite frustrating.

There are a lot of ways to do it but if you are yet interested in using swift tool you could use "center" intermediately after using swift loop.

It is located in the graphite tools ribbon>modelling> loops> open the sub-menu below> loop tools> center.

Yes, quite convoluted location but it opens a window that can be kept open. Also you can assign a shortcut or add a custom button in the graphite ribbon, It is called "Center Loops" in the customisation menu.

So far that's the only thing I miss about blender. (I tried learning blender first but it was so not beginner friendly lol.) I don't really understand, but I'll revisit this in a few days because maybe by then I'll have learned the program well enough to do what you said 🙂

Thanks!

With PConnect you cannot,

Let's say you need a cut between two edges that share the same polygon,

Select that polygon, then in the Edit Geometry rollout, click Slice Plane,

A yellow plane will show up. Now rotate that plane and move it so it's placed where

You like the cut to be, and click the Slice button.

For a straight vertical cut or a horizontal one, you can activate the Snap Angle (CTRL + A) so you can rotate

The slice plane by an increment of 5 degrees.
