Dear D. Hudson. Sometimes Sweep is not the way for certain curves that may have too many curves.
Sometimes you have to "fix" the shape manually.
Here is a link for a tutorial on making a "Raised Panel" for a cabinet door. I hope this helps.
https://www.youtube.com/c/VitoOporto3D-WORLD/videos

Hello! I have a shape to sweep onto a spline. The spline has a square bottom and an arched top. Can someone help me with it? The sweep works great at the bottom, where it is square. At the arched top, it overlaps.

Just a note, I use 3ds Max v2021.

Thank you for any help.

DHudson

I asume what you do not like is this area:

There may be an easier way but this is how I approached the task.

I detached the top segments of the spline and applied sweep modifiers to the two splines.

I then determined the angle of the intersection of the two sweep by rotating a line through the intersections. The angle is 30.7°.

I then created a box (red) and rotated it by 30.7° and snaped it to a vertex followed by a Pro-boolean subtract. A second box (cyan) was used to trime the other swept spline.

The following shows the progression.

I will try that. I was just hoping to get the sweep modifier to work because I have a lot of these to work on. At least your way will definitely work. 🙂

Thank you.

maybe this will help. Many times we ignore the position of the sweep on ALIGN PIVOT
After realigning you may have to resize your frame to fit your opening.

Only on the largest pivot alignment could I get it to stay on the sweep as it should. I will try resizing the frame after adding the sweep as well.
