not the fastest way but if your in editable mesh/poly then you can go under edit geometry then choose the button Detach maybe there is a script for your version of 3ds max if you search 3ds max Detach

script there will be a number of scripts that will come up

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-0D710AB4-FD10-41DC-8000-9B1EB1B73EA5-htm.html

Hello,

I am facing a problem in exploding the spline objects to individual spline objects (from the spline elements of the object).

Brief requirement: I import data from microstation (.dwg) format which creates individual object of each layer specified in Microstation. When I capture 3D-Objects, the Editable Mesh option helps me Explode the data to individual objects. Whereas, when I am trying to explode the line features, like building extents, wall outline etc, it splits to each segment and not to each element (a closed line).

Is there any option to preserve the Element while exploding the object, maybe by some other method, or some existing script or something else..... Please suggest.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

There are several scripts that apparently do that:

http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/explodespline

http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/explode-spline-elements

Hi,

Upon importing the DWG, in the import dialog, make sure the Weld vertices is checked,

With a low Weld Threshold amount like 0.003.

Now if you go the Spline sub-object level you can select individual closed shapes elements,

Then by using the detach feature, you can create new objects out of them.
