Maybe try to reboot your PC and see if it helps? What happens after you press OK on the error dialog? On my PC when I had the error, a window appeared saying that WSCommCntr4.exe has stopped working. If you don't get this message then I guess it's not WSCommCntr4.exe that caused your errors.

When I close 3ds Max 2016, just after the 3dsmax.exe process is about to stop I get this runtime error "R6025 pure virtual funtion call". I press OK and it is keeps popping back forever until I force-stop the 3dsmax.exe process.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yep, it's very common problem and I had it too.

I was told by the support that renaming the file WSCommCntr4.exe to WSCommCntr4.exe.back should solve this. You can find it here:

For 64-bit: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\WSCommCntr4\lib

For 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\WSCommCntr4\lib

I'm not sure why this file causes so many headaches and what is it's purpose but after I renamed it I haven't had this error (knock on wood).

I tried a reboot with no success. When I click OK to the message, the same message pops up again. It appears to do this forever until I stop 3dsmax.exe in the Task Manager.

I have found that if I have 3ds Max open for a while and I am doing some normal modeling tasks, after I close it does not give the error.

Autodesk has informed me that they are tracking this problem and they think it is related to workstations that have a Wacom tablet or Cintiq installed. I have verified that if I disconnect my Wacom tablet then the problem goes away.

If it helps, I think it is the touch feature on Wacoms that may be causing the problem.

I've switched back to an older Wacom Intuos tablet - non-touch - and it works fine under 3dsMax2016.

I think just disabling touch might also work on more recent Intuos tablets.

I have Touch disabled on my Intuos 5 Pro and get the crash every time I close 3ds Max.

I have submitted a support ticket to Wacom, and they claim after their testing that the fault isn't with thier drivers, it is purely a Microsoft Visual Runtime problem, and they suggest uninstalling the drivers, removing the tablet, and installing an older version of the driver, 6.3.10w2 with the tablet unattached to the system, verifying the system is stable, then attaching the tablet directly to the computer's USB port, not to use any Hubs, or adapters.

Thanks for the link.

I have seen posts in other forums on this subject where removing or not using a Wacom touch tablet has, for many users, avoided or cured the error message problem, however some users without tablets connected are also experiencing the issue.

I did see one post where a user seemed to have solved the problem by taking out plug-ins brought over from 3dsMax2105.

It seems likely that there is some instability in the MS runtime which somehow is being triggered in this latest version of 3dsMax under certain circumstances.

Some day a fix will come... I guess.

i guess this comes from conflicting/missing microsoft VC libraries

i would manually launch all those installers in the 3ds Max 2016 extracted install folder ( usually somewhere in c:\Autodesk\..\3rdParty\x64 and x86 ). I would simply launch all of them, one after the other - would'nt do any harm if it does'nt help

Maybe that fixes that issue
