Dear Reader,

After starting 3ds Max 2016 I get this Application Error:

If I click Annuleren, the programm stops loading and the screen shows the possibility to sent a report to Autodesk.

If I clik OK, then I get the following message:

After clicking OK I get the same possibility as before, to sent a report to Autodesk.

Among many other things I have tried, I have also tried the logic ones:

- removing the complete directory and the files mentioned, but the programm makes a new one again.

- Uninstalling 3ds Max, hoping to start fresh again. After installing 3ds again, nothing had changed, I got the same routines again.

Can somebody please help me to get out of this uggly loop, would me awesome!

Regards, Judith

Welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear about the issue. Have you tried updating your graphics card driver? Also try updating 3ds Max with the latest service pack.

Hi Matt,

Sorry for the very late reply, I must have missed the email that someone had responded on my post.

Eventually I solved the problem, I think it was indeed installing the latest service pack.

Thank you for your response!

Greetz, Judith

Hi Evett.s,

I still don't know why, but this error keeps happening. I also have installed all available service packs, but that doesn't solve the problem.

So I have found a work around to it in an old thread from Jun 05 2014. I have made a JPG of the solution to help me quickly if it happens again (see enclosed).

So far I have learned to click on "Cancel" when I get the first message!!! Not nice, because I have lost the work I have done on my project so far, but it saves me the trouble of renaming the folder and lose customisations as mentioned below and the back-up file made is corrupt anyway and not usable.

For safety I make a frequent copy of the hidden folder whenever I make big customisations, so fixing is quickly done and lost customisations kept to a minimum. I now have a C:\...\3dsMax\ORIGINAL-ENU that can be renamed fast to the one the system needs. 3ds Max works fine after that untill it happens the next time. May be one day I figure out what I am doing wrong to cause this.

Hope this will help you at least a little bit.

Greetz, Judith
