I'm helping out a friend with his indie game at the moment, and I'm modeling and texturing everything from 3ds max 2023, however, he's still using Max 7 from 2006. Without going into too much details why he's too lazy to get to the 21st century, it's mainly because he's got custom scripts which are important to transfering it over to the engine he's using, yada yada... So cool, I don't mind helping out.

With that said, I've tried every method I could think of but nothing works: It's out of the question to download 2019, 2016, and so on to keep saving it to a older version, and I don't have those versions anyways. I've exported fbx, not compatible (too new a version. Obj messes with the geometry and destroys the materials editor in the process. 3ds has been the closes so far which keeps the multi-sub object intact, but it's not transferring over the materials.

Is there any other way I can get this addressed because it takes hours to transfer over each object one by one and re-link the material textures without getting lost in the process? Any help is much appreciated thanks!

Hi,

You say you've tried FBX already, but maybe give this converter a go.
It is meant to export to Lumion (which it's great at), but I'd say it might be good for other things too.
It simply exports a nice stripped down, optimised FBX and a folder of textures. Maybe Max 7 might like them?

https://www.lime-exporter.com/

I'll give it a go, and report back. Thanks!

EDIT: So apparently it's a trial version and after using it briefly once, I had to restart the computer and now it says the license has expired and I haven't even been able to test it out completely. Yea I'm gonna need a different route. Any other thoughts?
