I think that's what the issue was, It was selecting the layer AND the child within it. The "Select Children" was checkmarked under the select menu in the Layer Explorer.

Once I unchecked it, and moved the layer it nested properly.

Thanks!!

Hello,

I'm having trouble nesting layers.

What I'm wanting to do is move a layer and it's children onto a new layer, but still keep the children within the original layer.

The problem I'm having is when I move the layer onto another layer it pulls the child out of the original layer. So what I end up with is the layer I moved it everything to, the child object, and the empty layer the child used to be in.

What am I doing wrong when I try and nest it?

2016 SP2?

If we have:

"Target Layer"

"LayerWithObj"

---ChildObj

You should only have to select & drag "layerWithObj" to "TargetLayer", I'm guessing maybe what you are doing is selecting the layer and it's child objects at the same time and dragging them to target? Alternatively you can right click "LayerWithObj" and choose "Add selection to"...."newParent (pick)" and then click the "targetLayer".

Otherwise might need a screengrab/recording to see what it is you're doing that would be causing that behavior.
