Hi @3dfuzz,

I believe Q16 on the FAQ would answer your question;

I am part of a small group of artists who are working on a side-project in addition to our main occupations. The income from our main occupations is over $100,000 USD each. We have not formed a legal entity in the context of our side project. If the income from our side project is less than $100,000 USD, are we eligible for 3ds Max and Maya for indie users?
If you have not formed a legal entity and the gross revenue from the side project is under $100,000 USD, you are each eligible for 3ds Max and Maya – for indie.

@whitebirchstudios - I would be careful with suggesting this as, depending on employment contracts, using an employers software license outside of work could lead to them having a claim on any IP created using that license, and that's ignoring any other restrictions on using workplace tools for personal use.

Hi all.

Very simple question regarding 3ds max indie. And I want a straight answer.

I want to buy 3ds max indie for personal portfolio purposes. Not selling, just for my own hobby and learning. Do not recommend student license to me, that's not the question.

Question is, I work for a company that owns 3ds max licenses so I work there. I want to come home to my own life and work on my own fun hobby project.

Does indie allow me to do this.

Thanks.

Just use your company license. But yes, I think an Indie license would work for your hobby.

If he isn't making money using his company's software, with his hobby, then
I wouldn't think it would be an issue. Now, if he is, then I wouldn't
suggest it at all. Maybe I misunderstood the situation.

I would agree. I assumed his side hustle was just something he did for fun, with no income. It's not advisable to take advantage of your employer's software for your own benefits, although some probably do. Buy what you need for your side hustle and keep your records for the tax man.

This has nothing to do with my main occupation.

I work for a company that earn over the 100k

I want indie for my own personal portfolio work. I do not intend to even make any money. Literally for fun and a hobby. There is no side hustle.
