Snap toolbar missing

For reasons unknown my Snap toolbar has become missing. Toggle buttons are missing. This happens when i drag the Snap Working Pivot Tool toolbar out with Snap toolbar.

Sorry my english is not good, maybe you don't understand what i mean. Here, snap toolbar buttons are missing.

I also have the same problem in Max 2024!

Did anyone try and open UI/Toolbar settings from a previous version of Max?

You can restore this by going into the "Customise User Interface" menu, and then dragging the buttons onto it from the "Snaps - Standard" category, as pictured. The icons will be missing, and dragging and dropping in the correct place on a toolbar is quite frustrating as it will put the icons in random places it seems, so it'll take some doing.

You can change the icon by right clicking on the button, and selecting change button appearance, and then go into Image Button, and select snaps group - all the icons will be there in order they should be.

thanks for this reply.. BUT. for what are we all paying here? Every time AUTODESK releases something, it always worsens better on the other side... what the hell!?

I just thought I would update this with a quicker way of repairing the snaps toolbar - I think this happens if you use hard copy file versions of Max's settings into later versions, but who knows really.

You can go into "Customize User Interface", and the "Toolbars" tab.

Click on "Save..." button twice and save two versions of the toolbar settings (they have CUIX file extensions), and then find the file you just saved. KEEP ONE AS BACKUP IF THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU.

Open up the file in notepad and search for:

Window objectName="Snaps" name="Snaps"

Select everything from:

down to the next line that says:

</Window>

Select everything below and paste this over that, save the file as the newtoolbar.CUIX, go back into Max, and then load this updated file in the Customize User Interface menu (as above) and it should update your buttons correctly.

I had the same problem when in Customize> Custom Default Switcher I changed it to “max.vray”. I returned to the default “Max” and the snap bar buttons worked again.

That would revert all your settings to defaults (keyboard, toolbar layout, etc).

Yes, at least here I solved it by saving and loading my custom configuration in "save/load custom UI scheme". You can save your current settings before returning to the default setting. When you load them back to max, they will not set max.vray and the problem did not return here.

Also having same problem with Max 2024.. is there an actual update / fix for this problem that doesn't require us to jump through all these goofy hoops and or workarounds?

Yep! This is the way. I just installed 2024 a year after this post (12-20-24) and this was still an issue. How is that possible Autodesk? This copy and paste solution solved it in under 1 min. Again I ask... how is this still an issue Autodesk?!!!

Its slightly different. This version uses the current icons. With the version you posted I was getting older icons. This version uses

iconName="SnapsControls/SnapToGridPointsToggle"

instead of

 imageID="0" imageName="Snap_Points"

I'm not really sure why it works, but I was used to the new icons.
