opening max 2015 files in windows 10

i cant seem to just click on a max file and open it in max, i have to open max first and then open the file through 3ds max, is this some known issue?

try...

1. right click your max file and choose properties.

2. Under properties, go to General Tab

3. Opposite of Open with, press the change button

4. Under Open With dialog box...look for 3ds Max Application....

5. if its not there, press browse button and look for the location of your 3dsmax.exe

if the above method still doesnt work, use Control Panel File association

if still doenst work, us regedit and redirect 3dsmax application

what i actually did was do a reset first of default apps then right clicked on a file and searched for max to open it with, it wasn't working before i did a reset, thanks!
