ACA materials to 3d Max

I have a model built in ACA 17. I created a custom material library with our firm standard materials. Works great in ACA.

I linked the model into 3DS Max 17 and the materials show up in the Material editor but most don't show up properly. When trying to fix them by remapping to the image .jpg's they just seem unresponsive.

I tried to load the custom library but it's extension is .adsklib and Max only searches for *.Mat or *.Max

I'm hoping there is some simply step I'm missing. This seems like a lot of work already done that will need to be redone from scratch?

Any help is appreciated.

Hello @calfcreek_2,

This does sound a bit strange. Let's try to tackle this issues one at a time.

First, you can relink all your maps quickly using the Asset Tracker. If all the textures exist in the same folder, it's just a couple clicks to relink them all. Now. as for the unresponsiveness, what is your current renderer as you are doing this? The default is Scanline, but the Autodesk materials are not compatible with scanline. If this is what you currently have as your default it could explain some of the slowdowns. If scanline is the current renderer, the Autodesk materials are not even available in the material browser and being forced to process them (especially with the material browser window open) could really have an impact on performance. Make sure you have mental ray or a more advanced renderer than scanline enabled and see if that helps at all.

I talked with two of the AutoCAD support techs that sit near me about this, and there could also be a problem here if you have 2 libraries in use, but one material on both of them has the same name. (For example, and high res and a low res version.)

You are correct in that 3ds Max doesn't have default support for the .asdklib format within 3ds Max, except for linking as you are currently doing. So there is no way to import then directly into the material/map browser at this time. Let's continue this once you have checked the above items.

Best Regards,
