auto-orienting FFD to selected geo?

I'm guessing this doesn't exist, so it's a feature request, but I figured I'd ask 🙂

Is there any way to auto-orient an FFD control cage around the selected object/sub-objects? By default, an FFD's cage is oriented along the world's XYZ. See the example below: the selected polys are facing in some random arbitrary direction, but when applying the FFD, its cage is oriented along the default XYZ axes. It'd be nice to have an option to get the FFD to hug the polys as close as possible. Maybe it would be a two-step thing: set a working pivot aligned to the arbitrarily-oriented polys, and then have the FFD cage orient to the working pivot? I dunno.

I know you can go into the FFD's Lattice sub-object and rotate the cage manually, but that's not what I'm after.

Thanks!

Ah, never mind, apparently it can be accomplished by:

- Creating a grid object and aligning it, by whatever means, to some part of your oddly-oriented geo

- Activating the grid object

- Creating an FFD around your selected geo

- Setting your Reference Coordinate System drop-down to "Grid."
