Maybe memory problem

Hi!
I will try open this .ms file but i only get this message:

"an error has occurred and the application will now close"

What can i do,that I can open this ms? 😞

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

This is strange, this is a script file that makes a model, in theory. It crashed for me on 2017 and on 2014. Where did you get this? This is beyond my ability to repair...

Hello!

The origin modell type is gr2 (granny) and I have a converter which can produce gr2 to .ms script file. But a few didn't work. I think its a memory problem because i didnt find difference between the working ones and dont working ones...just file size..

I attach a working file.

Just pull on max window

Thank you for the explanation. I have to log this into the tracker and send it up the chain. I don't know how to address this particular issue and any fixes would have to come from development.

Can this converter export a different type of format? Or does it only do .ms? The script that's not working is 60,000 lines of code.. maybe it hit some sort of limit. It is a memory problem of some kind given the access violation error, and it will require a programmer or QA person to really investigate. I will log it now. It may be a while before this gets looked at, so I would start looking into alternative methods in the meanwhile if possible, just so you aren't left hanging.

Yes, you're right.

20-25000 line at reading the 3ds Max.How can I modify this to read more than few lines? so i need maybe 1-2.000.000 row 😄

2 million lines of code in a .ms script.... I have my doubts. I've logged this to be looked at but right now my suggestion is to export into a different format. I can't quite understand the benefit of doing it this way... is .ms the only format it can export? If so... why? Thanks for any information.

My modells type is .gr2 (granny) : http://www.radgametools.com/granny.html

You can open this format with Granny Viewer.
I have one converter which i can create one format for Max.
I dont find 3ds max plugin for gr2 exporter. So yes I know the only way.

Is there another converter you can use? Is the reason that the file needs to be .ms because that's the only format your current converter supports?

I have emailed support at Granny to see if they have some ideas about other methods of converting the file, I will let you know what I find out. In the meanwhile, I did log the issue into the bug tracker and send to QA. I'm not a programmer so I'm a bit outside my element but I'll continue trying to find an answer for you. If this is a bug in 3ds Max with line length, it will be looked at by QA. I've tested in 2014 and 2017 and got crashes in both.

I heard back from Aaron at Granny3D and he was super helpful and gave me a bit more information. This isn't a Granny issue at all, and does seem to trigger a problem in 3ds Max. As I mentioned I've logged it for QA to investigate, but in the meanwhile please see if you can find another converter that may allow you to export as a format other than .ms for the time being. I will update you when I know more, and thanks.
