Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

We've got a few users internally with the 1070 cards and they are running well with Max 2014-2017. In a technical sense, 2017 is the only version that was tested with the 1080 cards, though the 1060's and 1070's work for many people. Does it only crash when using Vray? If so, it may be a Vray problem.

When 3ds Max crashes, it usually brings up a window afterwards which allows the user to input an email address and a description of the problem. If you enter your email address before you press Send, I can take a look and get an idea of what was causing the crash in many cases. Please do this the next time it crashes and I'd be happy to investigate. Also, make sure your Vray version is updated as much as possible for 2014. You may also have more luck by using a different display driver in 3ds Max.

Best Regards,
