I've got 3DS Max 9 on an older Window 7 machine but could never get it to run on Win10. Any tips for what you did to get your version running on Win10?

I'm getting a new system shortly and will be trying to build up some contract work, but till then I can't afford the subscription version (since the newer versions of Max aren't available for purchase for some reason).

Not really because 3ds max was not meant to be used on windows 10 but i use max 9 on windows 7 so you would need to buy a newer verison of max or downgrade your software to windows xp, vista etc

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

Nothing made before W10 was released is certified/supported on Windows 10, but you might still be able to get it to work although it's not supported or recommended. You'd almost definitely need to use compatibility mode in Windows. You can see the system requirements for Max 8 below.

Hardware: Pentium III or AMD processor, 500 MHz or higher
512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
500 MB disk space (2 GB recommended)
Graphics card supporting 1024 x 768 x 16-bit color with 64 MB RAM
DVD-ROM drive

Software: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (recommended) or Home Edition with Service Pack 2 or Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4
Internet Explorer 6
DirectX 9.oc

Best Regards,
