About to order a brand new Workstation with clean installs of Max 2017, Vray 3 and Photoshop.

I'm looking for the most reliable and stable combination.

Windows 8, 10 (home) or 10 (pro) ?

not sure what part of the world you are but you can get some good info from 3d world and 3d artist magazine i think 3d artist is the best magazine out there there have a lot of things in them from tutorials and 3d computer for us 3d community but within the UK these cost £6 per mag

what are you looking to get a laptop a desktop? what is your max price your willing to pay?

Unfortunately that link to 'supported hardware' doesn't include Max 2017 or Windows 10.

there is not gonna be much difference in the hardware between versions until autodesk updates there hardware page i cannot do anything about it because that is the last page from autodesk unless someone has a different page who works for autodesk

Given how long both Max 2017 and Windows 10 has been out, I think it's dissapointing

IMO - the most stable system is still Windows 7 Pro. 😉

'Windows 10 is not yet an officially supported operating system across the Autodesk product line. Autodesk intends to support many of our key products on Windows 10 and will add products to the list of products supported on Windows 10 as updates and future versions are released. '

Yeah, I don't think the documentation has quite caught up with the product completely. Max 2017 SR states "Microsoft® Windows® 7 (SP1), Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 Professional operating system" but the forums here, and others, is fully of Max/Win10 issues. Personally I don't need the hassle of dealing with new OS/application growing pains. I'm still on Windows 7 Pro and will stay there for the time being. 😉

Hello @Anonymous,

You do need to use a Pro version of whatever OS you pick, Home will not work properly. You can see the requirements here. W10 is only supported on 2017 currently. However, I will try to help users that are using 2016 or less on W10, it's just that it may not work out. Here are the graphics requirements.

If you have links where it says that it's not supported for any products, please share them so I can send a note to the relevant parties.

So if I opted for Max 2017, would you recommend Windows 10 Pro, or would I be safer with Max 2017 and Windows 8 pro ?

Hello @Anonymous,

I'm not really qualified to make a judgement there in any official sense, but at home I'll be on Win7 for at least 5 more years if I can get away with it. If I had to choose between 8 and 10, I'd choose 10.
