Hi everyone,

I want to use my Xbox One controller for modelling in 3ds max.

I was wondering if anyone here has some suggestions about what control scheme to use, also how do I get to the settings to change the control settings and is it even possible to model in 3ds max using my Xbox controller?

you cannot use the xbox controler for modeling or animation are you insane you would need a mouse and i think you can use a computer tablet from what i have seen on animation movies behind the scenes. maybe this is only for photoshop and i am confused! but i don't think so?

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

There is no built in controller functionality in 3ds Max for XBox controllers. You may be able to use some 3rd party software to map key combinations to your controller buttons but that would have to be arranged outside of 3ds Max. I wouldn't say it's impossible though with time/patience and the right software. It would likely be time consuming and possibly difficult to navigate.

EDIT: You'd asked about control scheme. I would make sure that the following keys are mapped somewhere. The rest would be up to you.

Control

Alt

Shift

LMB

MMB

RMB

My personal feelings are that this would be not worth the time/effort. I can't think of any upsides to it.

Best Regards,
