Hello,

i'm using 3ds max 2017 and my question is: i want to export a camera animation done in a scene to import it to another scene with same scale (the 2 scenes have the same scale and everything) so how can i export it and merge it exactly to a place it should be?

thanks

You could try it the other way around and merge the other scene into your animated camera project.

Just delete everything except for the camera, obviously.

Create a dummy object at 0,0,0 in the other scene before importing it, then when the objects come in to your camera scene move the dummy object (and everything else, or have them grouped in the other scene) back to 0,0,0 in your camera scene.

Sorry, I've never done it, and I don't have a scene to test at the moment.

Perhaps there are some tips in here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/ENU/FlameAssist/files/GUID-711279C0-F28B-4B5B-B2D4-C6A692E757F5-htm.html

It applies to AutoDesk Flame 2017, but the tip about saving to .3DS sounds like something useful.

Hello @Anonymous,

I'd like to help with this camera merging issue. If the two scenes have exactly the same scale, then all you need to do is go to File->Import->Merge and then select the file. When the list comes up to pick object, pick only the camera and then press Ok. Should work right off. Can you please try that for me?
Now, if that doesn't work the camera may have been linked to another object, in which case you need to import that object as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Even check if the source file and the target file have the same units set. Check even in system units. Also uncheck 'respect system units in files' just for merging purpose. This should keep animations of cameras intact, but may scale objects bigger or smaller. Then group the entire scene (except camera) and scale it with some reference points. Setting pivot of the group to your preference point of scaling should make things easier to scale. Hope this works.
