You can still resize it by dragging. Yeah, I agree, it's a nuisance and it shouldn't be possible to resize some UI parts well out of their bounds, they should remember their undocked size and it should be possible to dock stuff to the left of commandpanel like it used to be possible as well - and don't make a mistake, all of that was reported multiple times. But the dev team is understaffed and this is what we got.

Same for me, a big frustration.

Expant the Ribbon, then collapse it again. It hides but leaves all the big area as empty space in the UI. In Max 2017 this worked properly.

Same for the timeline toggle. Switching it to mini curve-editor, then back to timeline leaves you with an inflated timeline, instead the normal slim one.

About UVW-Editor I can't tell much about performance yet (hope it's at least not worse than in 2017). The peel-bug seems to be fixed.

A quick test-scene with 1 million tris consumed 1,1 Gig in 2017 and 1,5 Gig in 2018, so this seems a bit higer. Still, I wouldn't mind a higer RAM consumption, if only the glitches, the obvious "not ready for release"-things wouldn't be there.

here's another way !!! For ppl who haven't initialized it...and found the ribbon HUGE...

(if you hover from right of line, you'd be dragging the Command Panel out, no good......so hover your cursor from the left of the line and as you get closer, your cursor will change and you'll be dragging the Ribbon to make it thinner)

Vusta, I think I didn't explain my problem clear enough. It's not that the UI gets 'messy' (like leaving things oversized) when you configure it, when you drag and dock things.

I mean when you have the ribbon where you want it, and then use it's expand/collapse button, in order to make it large (to work with it), and then minimize it again. In fact, minimizing does not work. It hides the ribbon tabs, but leaves the previsouly used space in the UI there - as unused empty ara.

Workarounds ? Simply not caring and leaving it always fully expanded, not worrying about wasted space ? Or manually resizing the empty space, hundred times per day ?

have you ever thought of clicking the Toggle Ribbon just above it (ok...a bit to the right) ? Don't even have to minimize it...toggle it, it reappears as it was...should try that some time...and it even regains you an extra 'line'....

This works, thank you.

Maybe Autodesk will thank you for this too, consider it solved and just remove the Minimize-button one day

I still don't mark your workaround as solution, because I think the OP was more about the general glitchiness how the UI can be messed up. But a Kudos is a deal, I hope.

An I will now check if there are news in the the script reference. Looks like the previous way of docking dialogs doesn't work well with the new UI.

Have a good Sunday.

Hello @dimarakov and everyone,

I'm late to this thread, but this is a known issue that the devs are working on. There are some good workarounds in here. I can't repro exactly what I'm seeing in the first movie, so it appears to show differently for different people. I've tried it with and without the quad/viewport vertical toolbar but no dice. The devs however were able to repro it, even though I cannot.

I have recorded a Screencast of me trying, maybe I am doing something wrong. Thanks for any pointers on repro here.
