make sure you change the mapping to whatever your border is box cylinder etc now change the mapping size, we cannot really help unless we see an image render of your model

UVW Map Modifier

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-78327298-4741-470C-848D-4C3618B18FCA-htm.html

sometimes you cannot use UVW map try using unwrap UVW mapping

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-EA10E59F-DE7F-497E-B399-6CF213A02C8D-htm.html

Controlling a Texture with Unwrap UVW

create a plane in the front viewport knock the plane segs down to 1 in each directions, W1 L1, convert it down to a poly turn on edge faces f4 now in edges selection now select the edges about your border under edit edges you see the button create shape from selection hit that button, the dot will be in the linear hit on ok...

use the select by name arrow, you will have a selection object now choose the spline and click on ok this is your border so you will need to rename that, now on the RT handside you will see rendering enable in renderer and enable in viewport are unchecked/unticked check/tick both of them you see the redial thinkness change the spinners, example 3.927

now apply your texture in the diffuse make sure you have show in viewport applied then apply the UVW mapping then follow the screen shot i have attached

flat is create a plane knock down the W to 1 and L to 1 then you convert down to a poly in edge mode select all 2 sides LT & RT of your plane then use the connect tool setting box and this will connect the two sides by inseting a line use the in the connect settings box in the segs you put 2 use the pinch to move apart the segs to the amount you want, then click ok

you will do the same to the top and bottom of your plane

make sure you have edge faces turn on then you would need to texture it!
