Alternativly,

You could select the camera, and in the menu, perform a save selection as, and import that file into the new file.

If you are using 2016, there is a free script that works like a copy/paste called copitor. Essentially, Copitor does what I just described above but at the press of a button. (Copitor is awesome!)

Is there a way to export a camera to a different file and scene?

Yes.

If you know the camera name, you can open the scene you want to copy the camera to and from the menu, select "import" then select "Merge". Select the MAX file you want to copy the camera from and find the camera in the list. Done.

MAX will place the camera in the exact spot it was in the old file.

If this works for you, please mark it as a solution.

Thanks,

cool on the import! Its strange that I never realized after all the years I have been importing files it never accrued to me to import one of its attributes. lol . And as far as the copitor, I can't get the macro to run. I dragged it into my scene went to customize/and it is not listed under all commands below in the category's

On the download page, it says it works with v8- 2016. 😞 I believe the creator of the script said he has plans to make it work with 2017 and 2018...but its not our there yet. Onless you know how to modify that script, you might have to do this "by hand"

I just tried 2016 and it don't work there either.

You just drag and drop the file in the viewport correct?

Yes, just drag and drop the .mcr file on the viewport. I have this statement saved from the creator...

Installation:
Drop The file in max viewport and go to Customize ==> Customize User Interface ==> Category: zOffTy Tools ==> Copitor

edit: then I just assigned copitor to my quad menu

let me know if this works
