I have a point cloud where the scanning was done in the dark, so when viewing in Cyclone or ReCap the only way to discern geometry is using the intensity display. when using the "colors from scanner" mapping, there is only a few colored points where someone had a flashlight and the rest of the points are black.

I exported a PTS file from Cyclone and brought into ReCap and saved as an .RCP file. Now with my RCP file in 3ds max, when I select "Intensity Ramp" it apparently gives me some fudged version of the "colors from scanner". Because now the points are all orange except some changes of color where the flashlight was. It does not give nearly the color gradients seen in the Cyclone or ReCap intensity mapping.

I suspect this is a Recap issue? can someone please help?

Thank you,

Curtis

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for participating in our community! Would you be able to let me know what version of ReCap are you using? Did you set-up point cloud color in ReCap Pro before importing to 3D Max? Would you be able to share screen capture of screen cast of this behavior? Please, review this “Point Cloud Color Settings” for more information.

Thank you and have a great day!!!

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

Max doesn't really have a lot of material options for Recap and point clouds. The information is baked into the cloud, so there's no way to change it inside Max that I am aware of. That being said, ReCap likely has more sophisticated display modes than 3ds Max for these objects. Would it be possible to share this file with me? If privacy is necessary due to NDA reasons, I can create a private folder for you. I am happy to do so if you would like.

Best Regards,

Hey, sorry I've been out of the office the last few days. Thanks for the reply, I agree it seems "baked in" so I am considering deleting the photos from the scan data and exporting again so it only associates with intensity coloring? On Monday I will share file with you so you can see it. Thanks again!
