Adding object to already created group

I have searched the forum and tutorials but can't seem to figure out how to add an object to an already created group. For example, If I select some objects and create a new group and then realize that I forgot to add something in that group, how do I do it without having to ungroup everything and start all over?

With a lot of software you can just drag and drop into the group but 3ds max wants something different and it's driving me nuts. Should I be using containers instead? Is there a difference?

I love the outcome of 3ds max but man, they make you work for the simple stuff!

-select your group >> open it from (group menu) .

-select object that you want to attach to group and go to (group menu) >> attach

-select group gizmo ( frame )

It's not giving me an option to attach. I have a bunch of object in a group. Within that group I have a second group. I want to add more object within that first group, and into the second group.

Not sure why this is such a problem. Like he said before. In other software you can literally just drag objects and place them where you need. Max really does make the simple stuff unnecessarily complicated. Anyway, rant over.

if the main group has a instanced copy, then why the new attached object is not updated on the instances of this main group?

Urgent action is required from the staff as these instructions are NOT CLEAR and very debeatable.

Indeed, for those who have several groups already opened by the menu Group, the instruction did not worl at all.

How can e select a group, then open it, if when selecting the item the group previously selected is deselected at the second selection?

E.g., I grouped and sub-grouped lights and when adding a new one, I CANNOT ADD a new one to a 4-level sub-groups, and have to spend 10/15 mins to ungroup everything and redo the grouping.

Can someone, please, better Illustrate functional steps and add to the instruction eventual exclusions?

here an screenshot: how can "arnoldlight001" be dragged into Lighting/Arnold/A2 - Body/...? (indeed, if applying the given instructions nothing will work).

The group that you're attaching to has to be closed.

Hi,

[Shift] + [U] together, are system default Hotkeys for 'Add to Group' (The existing group being added to has to be closed or it won't work).

I have set up "Open Group" / "Close Group" to Hotkeys;
#1 [CTRL]+[Shift]+['G'] to 'Open Group'.
#2 [CTRL]+[ALT]+['G'] to 'Close Group'
#3 [CTRL]+['G'] is 'Create Group'.

Those Hotkey Shortcuts don't exist by default. *Except for [CTRL]+['G'].
Very handy to set up. You can 'Create', 'Open', or 'Close' with your left hand on the keyboard.
