I mean that's just a temporary solution. Before, 3ds max would load with a nice gradient for the background and I can't seem to get that back.

Hi Currently A Student using this program for class. I am currently having a problem with my 3ds max file background being black? So when we were prop making and starting to paint them in 3ds max, the client crashed as i was using the fill paint tool in the viewport canvas. now all I get is this.

This is what the gradient background looks like. I've tried googling how to find a solution behind it and I couldn't find one. Even when I open a new 3ds max file is when I also get this black background. I've tried unistalling and repairing the client hoping it'll fix it, but no regards it didn't.

But for some reason when I open up an older file I made it'll have the default gradient in which I want.

Any help would be appreciated. I just want to get it back to default settings again.

Hi,

Open a new max file, go to Customize menu, Customize use interface, Colors tab,

At the bottom of the dialog click Reset

Also, as you can see from the picture above, you can set the "Viewport Gradient Background Bottom"

And the "Viewport Gradient Background Top" separately to the colors you like.

Lastly, and if for a strange reason those two choices above didn't satisfy you, try resetting all user settings

By closing Max and going to: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20xx - xxbit

And rename the folder called ENU to something else like ENU.OLD and reopen Max

Well doing the reset didn't do the trick, but I found a work around by changing the background top & bottom to fit the colors. Also doing the reset on the settings via the 3ds max folder also fixed it as well and fixed my other problem with the uvw editor.
