max has always has this problem where it stop interacting with windows, the best you can do is upload the files and see if someone else can create the same problem you are having. when you explain it what steps you go through, i find that if you are using the AEC extended windows or doors if you clone them across to make another windows/door. @Diffus3d says "try to divide division to stop the problem" but in my case that did not work.

you can try merging one object at a time into a new scene, until you find out what is causing the crash then in this case you know what object is causing the problem and you don't merge that one. but you will need to remodel it, but merging one object at a time can be very time consuming in you have a big scene.

so that is my 2 pennies.

i recommend uploading the file.

Hi,

I just installed 3DS Max 2017 and am enjoying the improvements so far.

However, every time I close the software, a few seconds later a window pops up saying the application has stopped working. (Screenshots attached).

OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 - 64 bit

Processor: Intel i7-4790K

RAM: 32 gigs

GPU: Nvidia Geforce 1080 Ti

I currently have Max 2015 on this machine and have never had this error.

The only thing I can think of that was different about the installation this time around was that I unchecked some of the addons I didn't think I'd need (don't remember exactly-- some sort of server rendering support, Revit inter-operability, and something to do with Inventor I think...

Just want to make sure this isn't the sign of some greater instability or potential file corruption down the line. Thanks.

Hello @Anonymous,

Yes, I've seen this from time to time. The best way to fix it is to put the taskkill.ms file in this link into your startup scripts. I gather a change to .NET by MS during 2017 caused this to crop up from time to time and that script has worked 100% of the time for me to fix it. Can you please try it? (Thanks @irishman_team_kilber for the @Anonymous

Best Regards,

Alfred

Many thanks, @Diffus3d! That script did the trick. I don't even understand why the task wasn't being killed on its own, but it's good to have this annoying issue solved.

@irishman_team_kilber: It didn't matter what file I was using. The crash happened after Max was already closed, 100% of the time. I never used AEC extended windows and doors either.
