HI Forum,

i´ve got a little bit of a problem in here. The Import from an Autocad file isn´t working properly. I get some very big and filled lines and everything looks wrong. Any ideas?

Import from Autoca2018 to 3ds 2018

Greetings, Erwin

Re: Import from Autocads Splines isnt working

There are two issues that are causing the apparent difference in the AutoCAD spline and the 3ds Max spline.

1. The imported splines have their rendering in viewport enabled. This makes them appear fatter and generates a mesh around the spline. Simply uncheck Enable In Viewport.

2. When splines are imported from AutoCAD they are approximated by a spline that has many short straight segments. The 3ds Max spline definition for AutoCAD splines does not use the Control Vertices of the original AutoCAD spline. This yields a very inefficient spline. I recommend that you add a Normalize Spline modifier to the splines and adjust the segment size as needed for your level of needed accuracy.

Here's a zoomed in view of one of your imported splines.

Here it is with a the NOrmalize Spline modifier and a Seg Length of 1.

Here it is after being collapsed to make it a spline and then having the vertices re-smoothed.
