This is how I fixed dodgy scaling issues with 3DSMax on two mismatched screens too. I got rid of the lower resolution one, and have two matched, same brand, and model 4k screens now. While not an ideal solution, it seems to be a quick workaround to get the best from 3DSMaxs display.

Regards,

This bug has been annoying me for a couple of years - I believe it started when 3ds max was updated with 4K UI. But I do not know where to report it. I know it's a common issue, because I've had it multiple machines, home office and fresh windows installs.

Problem: If you have two screens or more and drag a window from screen to the other screen, like trackview or render view etc... after a few minutes the dropdown menus of the top row starts to offset. And the only way to access them is to minimize 3ds Max. Eventually they can end up so far away that its difficult to access them.

I hope Autodesk reads this and file the bug to fix it. If I need to report it somewhere else please let me know. (see screenshot to see what the problem is.

Hi, are both screens the same make, model and resolution?
I have experienced strange happening when using two mis-matched screens.

To report a bug, go to the 3DSMax menu -> Help -> Feedback -> Report a problem.
Also you can contact Autodesk support directly here:
https://www.autodesk.eu/support/contact-support

Regards,

Thanks I will do so.

The screens are not of the same brand, but both screens are 4K and the same resolution.

I recently updated to a 4k monitor, while my second was still a 1440p. this caused lots of issues when dragging windows across both, so i purchased 2 of the same 4k monitor. It helped fix the problem with the windows scaling weird. but 4k monitors seem to bring their own problems with max.
It seems that 3ds max doesn't scale its icons correctly to a 4k resolution so i had to research strange work arounds to get it to display correctly. and when i say correctly i mean i now display at lower resolution on my 4k monitor because it was impossible to do in 4k, kind of defeats the purpose.
Also, I have a continuing issue where if I minimize of max's windows they completely vanish, i never know where they go and the only way to bring them back is to hit the icons twice, once to close, again to open.

I'll confess I downloaded blender today.....😐

I got some suggestions from Autodesk, and if you change so that 3ds max UI scaling is controlled by the application because the bug occurs if the two screens are of different UI scaling. Meaning no difference between the screens, it works.

it should be adressed by Autodesk though, because this is a bug!
