hmmm, I don't get the dispersion across the ground object like you are getting there. The particles were not even really reaching the side to over flow.

I will run the sim again and see, is your scene scale the same as what was in the file. i.e. 1 unit = 1cm?

Hey there,

I have this issue where I cannot get the default water settings in MaxFluids to fill a container or basically spread like spilled water. In max, scene scale as cm, maxfluids as 1 unit = 1 cm, I build a container 20cm x 20cm and extrude it down so it's a pot basically. I put the default 5cm emitter over the top, load up the default water settings, set the container as the collider and sim. The particles do not fill as I expect and when I emit just over the side expecting the particles to spread like water they disappear.

I have changed the Adpativity setting to .8 and the min to 100 and max to 1500 per a couple of tutorials I have seen to try and assist.

Is there anyone that can suggest what I may be doing wrong as to not achieve what should be a fundamental when it comes to this sort of thing.

Thanks heaps for any assistance.

S.

Can you upload this scene? It may be as simple as fixing up your collision mesh, but a scene would be helpful.

ok false alarm, I am not actually sure what I did wrong previously but it fills and overflows perfectly. The only thing I changed was the Thickness to 0.0 for the collision objects and viscosity to 0.1.. but the rest is absolute stock standard water preset settings. Anyway.. will put this down to severe user error somewhere.

a general question.. do you build everything and sim in CM? is there any instance where you would change that, even for a larger scale sim? There are not a lot of MaxFluids tuts around so I am looking at Maya BiFrost tutorials, but of course in Maya BiFrost is stuck in metres, regardless of what units you use in the app. I try to stick to real world everything in cm.. dunno if I am making a meal of bigger sims by doing this.

Depends, personally I got max at cm pr default so I tend to block everything out from that starting point, but regardling liquids I always tend to favor eyeballing it in addition, you may need to do a big waterfall from the tip of a needle, or a rain drop smashing into a planet destroying it, so I'd say, eyeball comes first over anything 🙂

Here is an example of the particles just disappearing. As far as I am concerned there should be a wide spread of particles. They just disappear not long after hitting the surface.

I have messed around with erosion and adaptivity and the like.. can't make it work properly.

S.
