Hi,
I really don't know anything about 3D studio Max, although I love editing
photos and CAD work. Overlay by Autodesk is a handy tool.. I'm sure you've
searched the Inter-web about your dilemma. You know you may get different
results from different search engines.

I wish I could help you out w/ a definite, but all I can do is share what I
can from personal experience.

Hang in there, be positive, and break the problem down to, one step at a
time. (Milestones).

Hi there,

I faced a problem while working on 3d max 2019 and posted it in the forum but unfortunately, no one seemed interested and I can understand that considering how a forum works. so I wonder if there is any way I can reach out Autodesk guys (working for 3d max) about this problem as I need to solve it ASAP. Did chat with an agent and the agent doesn't know if there is such a thing. Tried to check online and I did find that there is an email contact for technical support but its ' not-offered to non-subscribers' as my license is Network: educational. I used to contact Mathworks technical support team and imagined that Autodesk has a similar team.

I will deeply appreciate it if anyone is aware of a way for me to redirect my question to Autodesk people.

best regards

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting to us - Have you looked at the EDU support page at all? https://autode.sk/2vwXQ1h is where you can find email and agent support for educational licenses. I'll check for your 3ds max post and see if I can find anyone with some more expertise than my own. 🙂

thanks for your reply diana.yr,

I already had a chat with an agent and she seemed not aware of any support at all whether for educational license holders or not. If you know that , for example, there is a technical support team that only process the paid users please let me know so I can look at one who is a paid license user.

Would you mind re-stating the original question that you need support with? Or was it covered in your other post ( https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-forum/size-of-the-pixel-in-world-units/m-p/8419487 ) ?

Thanks alot @brentscannell;

well the question has not been answered yet.

Basically, How can I find the individual pixel dimension (width and height) of an image acquired by a physical or free camera in 3d max 2019. I do need those parameters because I am using the camera matrix to convert the coordination of a point in a scene (x,y,x) into pixel position(width, height) in the image of the scene.

I do appreciate your attention and please feel free to ask anything about this issue.

Hi, I used Autodesk "Overlay" to import images in Civil design, to accurate size, and rotation according to Northing / Easting.

You state, "How can I find the individual pixel dimension (width and height) of an image acquired by a physical or free camera". Most photo editing software can give you that.

So I take it that you need the photo,

1) to resolution,

2) to size/scale,

3) at proper alignment.

A lot of times, I need more than one software program to finish a project.

Take it one step at a time. Good Luck, Peace.

@Anonymous I am sorry if I misunderstood your reply. if you are pointing out to use specialized image software to analyze the output image, I already did that and the results were confusing. for example, I changed the aspect ratio of pixel size so the image changed accordingly but in windows image viewer I still get the dpi fixed (I know dpi is not ppi but that what windows uses). Used a different software (Irafn Image viewer) and no difference.
