Did your create a custom (Construction) grid and forgot to switch back to Homegrid?

If so right-click the custom grid and switch back to Homegrid.

I have posted this problem to Community Support forum several times but to no avail, so here goes hoping for help this time! When following the instructions for 3ds Max lesson 10 (Modifiers) "Standard Primitives objects" - Boxes - are always drawn with 'mis-aligned' axes. It is impossible to continue with the lessons, because my results do not match the expected results. This is a big problem, no?

Perhaps you changed your coordinate system to something different then 'View' like in the tutorial?

http://help.autodesk.com/view/3DSMAX/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-0F3E2822-9296-42E5-A572-B600884B07E3

You might want to review Lesson 8 .

Also creating the box in a different view then perspective changes the orientation of the created box.

Please refer to Lesson 3:

Regrettably, I did not change the grid. Wish I had then I would have an easy solution. I even tried resetting the work area, I tried each work area successively, I tried ALL the views including 'pick', and I tried reinstalling the program and for all that I got . . .crickets.
I discovered that My 'Length' and 'Height' settings are reversed. This caused me to wonder if there was a setting where I could designate the positioning of the pivot. Dop you know of any?

@Anonymous

When you select the object, and go into the objects hierarchy tab within the command panel, what happens when you select Center To Object? Here is what that looks like on my screen.

I'm not sure why objects created are being created with an offsite pivot point, @Anonymous's suggestions were pretty thorough, I will have to do some research and get back to you on potential causes.

I will get back to you soon!

Hi @Anonymous

I wanted to double check to see if this issue was resolved by changing the reference coordinate system that @Anonymous referred to earlier, here is a screenshot of what that looks like on my machine. Additionally, here is an article on these settings.

I understand from a private message you sent me that you resolved this issue by re-installing 3DS Max, i wanted to make sure you had a thorough understanding of the tools if you run into an issue like this again.

Talk to you soon 😄
