I've started getting these dark spots and blurry looking wireframe while rendering in Vray in Max. I tried opening a new scene and rendering on just a primitive with a basic Vray material and I am still getting these marks so I do not think it has anything to do with the model. Has anyone experienced this or has any ideas on what might be going on?

Here are my settings. If I change the quality to high it seems to show more defined edges but that is the only setting that has changed anything so far after testing.

Hi,

Check all your lights and look for a parameter called "Shadow Bias",

Make sure it's not negative.

Shadow Bias like previously mentioned is a good place to start.

Alternatively if that doesn't resolve your problem, and this may not be your issue, but just a thought... you can look into your Global Switch settings. I had something like this come up recently however it was when rendering a long sequence of frames and the surface of my objects were showing random spots and large sections of black polygons (as if my normals were flipped). After re-rendering the problem frames that showed black spots and noise, the singular rendered frames turned out ok and no problems were present.

The folks at Chaos Group are already aware of this issue. Under Global Switches change this to "Expert" mode and change the Adaptive Lights to Full Lights Evaluation (regardless of the adaptive setting which by default is 8). FYI, your render times may become longer. Hope that helps!
