I had a quick look, and I couldn't find anything.

I thought that there might be a hidden option in scene explorer, but nothing;

One workaround would be to right-click the image plane, go to object properties and turn off 'visible to camera', then in your camera viewport you could use 'active shade' so that viewport is in a constant state of rendering what the camera sees?

Is there a way to hide a reference image plane (for blueprints, etc.) on a single viewport, like in Maya, where you can choose "Look through camera..." so that, when modelling a car, for example, the image plane on the back of the model will not obstruct the rear perspective when looking through the orthographic camera "Back"?

Did you try with backface cull option in the object properties?
