Hello,

I need your help ASAP.

So I´ve made a chair on 3ds max and now i'm trying to export to sketchup. I've used a lot of different options to do that but the problem continues the same. No matter what I do my skecthup file is always too big to later share on sketchup warehouse. I have 2 max files of this chair with small differences. Both sizes with 10mb and 31mb. I've managed to compress both to 1,02mb and 8,26MB (on 3dsmax). I've already used the following methods:

-SimLab (converts directly to sketchup file- Result- Sizes on skp: 20,05 MB and 47,7MB...)

-Blender (first converted an obj in 3dsmax, imported to Blender then exported a 3ds file to import again in sketchup)

If I save only on 3ds it gets to this sizes: 2,48MB and 8,45MB. BUT then it shows all geometry that I have to Soften/Smooth Edges. Once I click "save"...boom...my files goes again to 20,05MB and 47,7MB. This happens no matter the strategy.

-CleanUp or Purge Unesed (with TT-Lib.2.12) - just doesn't do anything....no alteration at all

- I've also tried with SimLab Composer but my computer got too slow so I went to the other methods above...

So does anyone knows any steps to reduce a Sketchup file imported from 3dsmax? Many thanks!

Marcia

Hi,

Thank you! but it didn't work. Just tryied it. Exported from studio max to an DWG (13MB). It got even bigger (55 MB) when I saved in SKP. Before I had 47MB.

Many thanks

I put a [Optimize] modifier onto the bolts along the rim of the chair and it dropped the file size by 2mb, i would start there!

@Anonymous

Also, make sure to collapse your modifier stack before importing, this could add to file size! Right click on the modifiers and select [Collapse all] before export.

By the way,

I used both answers on the other File "Chair 2" but none of them worked. The file got bigger...
I thought maybe MultiRes would work on this one (now it is with two lines around the chair) but wrong. My max file stays small (1,02MB) but on sketchup is always big (20,5MB).Do you know any technique to reduce this new file i've just attached?

Thanks!

- the model has a dense polygon especially the button lining which is not practical to be that way because of its size. it causes a lot of numbers of faces and polygons giving SketchUp a hard away preserving the surface shape while sacrificing the file size. anyhow:
1. if you wish to decrease more of the file size, you need to remodel those button using just the half sphere with less side ( say 6 or 8 side) - this will reduce more of the file size. of about 30-40 percent (approx)
2. since the model is symmetrical, you can delete half of it, then export it in sketchup. make a component in then mirror it
