Material slate editor won't display

Hi,

3dsmax 2020

When utilizing the slate Material editor (m) it fails to display. I've tried the older Compact Material editor which works fine. I did get a material editor.dll warning after a reinstall. Obviously I want the better functionality of the Slate material editor. It would be appriciated if anyone could help me.

Problem solving attempts:

Checked if the editor was on a different screen and tried to displace it via the windows + arrow buttons. = No effect.

Reinstall including the complete removal of installation folders + reboot of workstation = No effect.

Tried locating some sort of material slate.dll = Could not find.

Tried removing files @ C:\Users\bas\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2020 - 64bit\ENU\SME = No effect.

Would appriciate some help solving this issue.

That's odd isn't it? Sounds like you've tried some things - wondering tho, you say "material editor.dll warning after a reinstall" I don't like the sound of that. I might try a Clean Uninstall - then a clean install and see if we can get rid of that error.

First tho - less drastic - you say you removed files from user directory - try Resetting Max User Preferences and see if that does the trick. If not I would try the Clean Redo above.

I forgot to mention this due to the obviousness of it but i've also tried resetting the user workspace & settings.

I'l try a clean uninstall including downloading the install files once more.

Resolved by clean install including registry redownloading & deleteing everything related to 3dsmax.

The solution is far simpler...

It happened again. The same problem of the slate editor not showing when pressing the button. However when thinking about it logically I realised it could be a dual screen issue. So I swapped the display to duplicate the first monitor and voila it showed.

Feel quite silly now but usually it works when pressing "windows btn" + "<^> arrows"
