2019 Layer Explorer Auto-expands columns

As per this post from 2016, is there any way to avoid expanding columns in layer explorer when I double click to select everything on that layer? I import Revit models so object names are often quite long. I don't need to see the whole layer, it would work fine if the double click selected all without expanding the layer.

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums! I tested this for about 5 minutes and didn't see a way to have the layers not exapnd when double clicked, but I can test more this afternoon.

I wonder if working with an assembly, or grouping the objects would help in your workflow?

working with assemblies or groups would be counter productive, and quite a work-around for what is a simple UI issue. If I understand it correctly you work for Autodesk? In the thread I linked to a poster said that the developers were working on fixing this issue, can you shed any light on why this hasn't happened 3 years later?

Thanks for writing back! Yes I work at Autodesk as a technical support specialist. I'm looking through the internally logged issues with the Layer Explorer, and I'm not seeing this specific issue logged. I would say 3ds Max is working as it's designed in that regard, some folks may prefer double clicking to roll out all objects.

If you think double-clicking a layer shouldn't expand the layer, I would suggest proposing it on the 3ds Max Ideas board to see if others feel the same way! This is actually the best way to get this issue viewed by the development team, as they consider the communities input and preference on how 3ds Max tools continue to evolve, change, and adept to customers preference.
